Better Leadership Academy Cohort (BLAC)

BLAC (Better Leadership Academy Cohort) offers a 4-part program for young leaders (typically aged 22-30) dedicated to self-development, leadership improvement, and fostering progressive Black communities. With coaching from top industry Black leaders, comprehensive education, leadership training, free mental health care, and career placement opportunities, we empower participants to drive positive change and ensure a brighter future for all.

This $1,540 program is made accessible to participants through sponsored seats, provided by the generous support of our local partners. Apply now to see if you qualify to participate at no cost.

Eligibility:

  • Residence: Applicants must reside in San Diego county.

  • Black Background: The program is specifically targeted towards individuals who identify with the Black or African American community.

  • Commitment to Community: Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to the betterment of the Black community in San Diego County.

  • Leadership Potential: Participants should exhibit leadership potential and a desire to make a positive impact within their community.

Topics Discussed:

Week 1: Resume/Cover Letter Training:

  • Crafting impactful resumes that highlight skills and achievements.

  • Tailoring resumes and cover letters for specific industries and job roles.

  • Utilizing keywords and modern resume formats to pass through applicant tracking systems (ATS).

Week 2: Effective Communications:

  • Developing strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Mastering professional email etiquette and business correspondence.

  • Enhancing presentation skills and public speaking confidence.

Week 3: Essential Workplace Skills:

  • Building strong work ethics and time management abilities.

  • Understanding workplace dynamics, teamwork, and conflict resolution.

  • Learning the basics of professional behavior and etiquette.

Week 4: Interview Preparation:

  • Practicing common interview questions and effective responses.

  • Developing strategies for different types of interviews (e.g., behavioral, technical, panel).

  • Improving body language, confidence, and professionalism during interviews.

Application:

Participants must be able to commit to the 4-week program, which entails attending weekly in-person sessions and regularly completing assignments, each session lasts approximately 2-hours long.

TUITION:

Tuition is $1,540 and is payable upon acceptance into the program. Tuition is non-refundable.
